Marqués has over 20 years of experience working directly in the food and agriculture sector, philanthropy and the federal government. She served in multiple positions at the U.S. Department of Agriculture including Founding Director of the People's Garden Initiative and creator of Share Your Harvest, a national campaign that in one year resulted in the donation of 1.2 million pounds of produce to families. Prior to Food Driven Strategies, Marqués served as a national program officer for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation where she developed the Transnational Food Sovereignty investment strategy and managed a $30M portfolio.
Growing up in a vulnerable, low-income, marginalized, under resourced, community of color, I saw a vibrant, colorful, creative, neighborhood of resourceful immigrant entrepreneurs. I merged this vision with my family's passion for food, which directly shaped my core values regarding equitable access to healthy, culturally appropriate, fair, and sustainably produced food as a basic human right and driving force for grassroots change. This passion led me to pursue the study of horticulture and to work with farmers across the country and communities around the world to promote sustainable local food production, food democracy, and community food sovereignty.
